The Maroon
For fifteen years Folkert-Hans was carrying a melody in his heart. Inspired by Nini Rosso's Il Silenzio (1965), he created his own instrumental composition, but its production had to wait for the right moment.
This was only when he was introduced to the Maroon. It is an invention of the Swiss instrument maker Inderbinen. The instrument is a mix between a trumpet and a flugelhorn, but it can be played with a trumpet mouthpiece.
The Maroon & Folkert-Hans – Life song Ariana
The very first notes he played on this new instrument were of his own composition. Everything fell into place. The tones took him back to his birth ground: Tunisia. Ariana is the city where he was born while his parents were living and working there.
The warm sound of the Maroon, combined with the ancient tones of the Qanun, reflects the soul of the country and Folkert-Hans’ musical journey. This composition, including the music video filmed in Tunisia, took two years to complete. His producer’s reaction was: “This would fit perfectly on a movie”
There are an original version and a radio edit available. For the enthusiasts there’s even a Dolby Atmos mix, available on iTunes and other streaming platforms.
With the Maroon Folkert-Hans has found an instrument that perfectly complements his instrument collection.
